Sat next to a nice Iowa couple who were vacationing in Fiji, and when she heard that I was moving from the US back across the International Date Line, she said, “Oh, you're moving back to the future?”
New blog name is born.
Landed uneventfully in Brisbane. Took the train into the city, and walked over to Simon's house. Simon reminds me of Kerry Boy, he does triathlons. His roommate, Travis, is an amazing cook and reminds me of Steven Cauley. I just hung out at the house b/c I was jet lagged, and in the evening Travis made duck salad, lamb shanks, and blueberry pie. It was amazing. They don't have wireless internet, so I can't check my e-mail very frequently. It's 6am now, I'm wide awake, and I want to go find a McDonald's with WiFi, but I don't want to walk twenty miles in the wrong direction.
It's beautiful weather here, but very humid.
Today Simon drove me to a shopping center, and I set up a bank account with Commonwealth Bank, and got a SIM card for my Nokia with Vodafone. Easy peasy. Tonight we're going to the Pineapple Hotel, which is really a bar.
Went out with Simon's roommate, Travis, Friday night to a few bars, and met all of his friends. Very fun.
Saturday Simon drove us up to Sunshine Coast, because he was competing in a triathlon. Saturday afternoon we went to King's Beach, which was nice, and I got in the water and didn't die. Success.
Sunday we woke up at 5am to go down to the race area. It was pouring rain, then blinding sunlight, so the weather was hot, humid, steamy and just overall shit. Watched a few Elite races (swim, bike, run, swim, bike, run) then drove back to Brisbane.
So far, no sunburn. Went to sleep around 9.
Correction - slight sunburn on the forehead. Of course.
Monday was apartment hunting day, and I called a few places. There are two apartments, one in Coorporoo and one in Greenslopes, that I'm checking out Tuesday evening. I'm running low on cash, so I'm going to have to find an ATM soon. Also, needs the internets.
Tuesday – walked around Coorporoo, bought a sandwich went by the ATM. Went to the house for rent on Landsdowne Rd. Very nice girls, beautiful house, but they're a bit more professional and stuffy than what I'm looking for. Pretty much decided to stay where I am and just rent this room month by month until I find a job and move out, or the boys get tired of my shit and kick me out. Watching a lot of NBA games these days.
Wednesday – looked through the classifieds in the paper, found a few job opprotunities, most of them are telemarketing, or what looks like restaurant work.
